Week 1 Reflection:
Currently I am using technology in my classroom through many ways. My students visit the school’s computer lab in a weekly basis. At the computer lab they publish their writing assignments, they research on the Internet and they also use a computer software program intended to differentiate instruction for students. During ELD, I have used the document reader for book talks. I also use the radio, so students can listen to the weekly reading selections and the overhead so students can demonstrate their work and also for other activities through out the day.
Week 1 Reflection: How are you currently using technology? If you are not, how would you like to use it?
I have incorporated the ELMO document reader into the classroom for student presentations, parent meetings, and as a tool to edit student writing. Additionally, we use the radio and overhead projector to assist in our lessons. We also participate in weekly visits to the computer lab to explore the Renzulli differentiated program, a typing software MAVIS, and as a tool for internet research and recreation.
Every week, I use the laptop (power point presentation) and LCD projector to introduce my students to selection vocabulary words and go over the word knowledge section in Open Court. My ELD students really enjoy learning the words especially when there are entertaining/animated images for the words. Furthermore, I try to make power point games with templates such as Jeopardy, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Big Board, etc to review concepts they have learned in the various subjects. Students especially enjoy this. I also have students use the Internet to research on their topics of interest when I assign projects.
I try to incorporate technology in my classroom by using the LCD, laptops, and document reader. I use these objects to show the students visuals so that they can relate what they are learning in the class with everyday objects. I have them do projects once a week in the classroom by using the computers, the library and at home. Projects that they do are research, powerpoint, and writing. I try to use technology as much as possible because the students respond well to these assignments.
I teach first grade and I do not use technology very much. I have had some opportunities to integrate technology on a few ocassions. For example, on my introduction of Neighborhood at Work Unit, I showed my students a slide show of pictures of the community that surrounds the school. I also use the starfall website for my students to play reading games on the computer, but nothing else. This technology class will allow me to integrate creative ideas into my daily curriculum. I believe my students will be more engage in learning when they see visuals come to life. Technology is like magic to them! Michelle Perazamineapolis90033@yahoo.com
The main technology I use is my Elmo. The students love to come up to the front of the classroom and put their work under the Elmo. I use it as an award system. My students that are behaving well get to come up and show off their work.
